| Jim Southworth is one of the few industry technologists
that has a truly broad experience of technology disciplines. His thirty plus years spans
everything from extensive applications and operating system software to high-speed
telephony transmissions systems and switching matrices. Over the years his
responsibilities have included large scale network deployments to unique product
development and prototypes. Mr. Southworth has been recognized internationally as an
industry expert in various access technologies such as DSL and Wireless as well as various
network delivered value added applications such as Voice over IP and Internet enabled
video. He has served in his present position as Director of Advanced
Network Services and Technologies for Concentric Network Corporation for over two years.
During that time he has had initial responsibility for all new emerging technologies. The
second part of his job has been in a senior technology oversight role on operational
products and equipment as they continue to evolve. His role requires direct interface with
engineering, operations and marketing teams as well as with the field sales organization.
Also included in his duties is representing the company on various committees and
standards bodies, especially those for the newer still maturing products and services. In
this capacity Mr. Southworth has just been recognized internationally by hius election to
the Board of Directors of the ASDL Forum in March 99 in Washington DC. The ASDL Forum is
the International standards body for the new DSL access technology. Mr. Southworth has
been featured in February 1999 on the CNN web site and in the PC World magazine March 1999
edition in articles in the future of the Internet. |
