Dr. Purdy is President and CEO of Mobile Insights, Inc., a professional services firm located in Mt. View, California. He is also Chairman & COO of PortableLife.com, Inc. a venture back Web portal for portable computer users.

Dr. Purdy has focused on mobile markets and products since 1986 and has become recognized as an industry authority in the mobile computing industry. He is often quoted in such publications as The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, PC Week, The San Jose Mercury News, InfoWorld and The New York Times. He has appeared on CBS Radio Business Report and Voice of America.

Dr. Purdy also conducts a number of consulting engagements for major firms in the mobile computing and communications market. Recent engagement clients include 3Com, Apple, AT&T Wireless, Compaq, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, IBM, Microsoft, NEC, Motorola, Qualcomm, T.I., Toshiba and Xircom.

Prior to founding Mobile Insights, Dr. Purdy was Vice President and Chief Analyst for Mobile Computing at Dataquest. Previously, he held marketing positions with Connecting Point (now Intelligent Electronics), Compaq, Fujitsu (Poqet division), and Phoenix Technologies.

Mobile Insights produces the annual Mobile Insights conference for leaders in the mobile computing and communications industry and the Go Mobile conference for IT decision makers. Mobile Insights publishes Mobile Letter, an electronic insiders newsletter, and MobileTrax Online, a Web-based continuous information service.

Dr. Purdy is a member of the IBM Mobile Computing Industry Advisory Council and the Dell Industry Advisory Council. He is also co-author of the book published by Macmillan ThinkPad: A Different Shade of Blue; Creation of a Successful IBM Brand.

Dr. Purdy earned his B.S. degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Tennessee (1965), an M.S. degree in Computer Science from UCLA(1968), and a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Exercise Physiology from Stanford University 1972). He also completed "Market Strategy for High Technology" course at Stanford University (1987).
