Workshop:
High-speed License-free Wireless Internet Systems Michael
Young
President
Young Designs, Inc.
Description:
This session is a technical primer for those wanting to learn more about high-speed
wireless Internet systems and have little or no radio experience. It offers an overview of
the technology and system components needed for license-free systems deployed in the 2.4
GHz ISM band. Discussed are the elements of a WIPOP (Wireless Internet Point of Presence),
antennas, amplifiers, ranges, customer equipment, system configuration, performance, etc.
Attendees will get an understanding of the basic technical issues and some insight on what
type of experience and personnel are needed to deploy these systems. Typical hardware
costs are also presented. The presentation is mostly generic and not manufacturer
specific. The material presented can be applied to both Frequency Hopping (FH) and Direct
Sequence (DS) Spread Spectrum systems.
