DVB-RCS: The Satellite Operator
and Satellite Consumer's Friend

Dick Bakker
Vice President
SpaceBridge Semiconductor

The satellite industry has been slowly increasing its share of the Broadband market over the last several years. The recent slowdown in the Telecom industry has exacerbated the access problems of businesses and consumers that are "offnet", therefore the market opportunity for Satellite services has expanded. The DVB-RCS protocol offers the industry a means of seizing this opportunity by standardizing earth station equipment, providing interoperability between vendors, and driving down system costs.

This presentation will discuss the DVB-RCS standardization progress, how and where it is being adapted, service options, system implementations, as well as some of the barriers faced and how they are being overcome. A key theme will be how the satellite operators and consumers will benefit from the implementation of the DVB-RCS standard.
