Mobile Messaging and Internet Applications

Fjalar Sigurdarson

   Fjalar Sigurdarson

Product Marketing Manager

OZ.COM

Fjalar Sigurdarson joined OZ.COM in 1999 to work on iPulse, a carrier class communication service platform co-developed by Ericsson and OZ.COM. At OZ.COM, Fjalar works on general market planning for iPulse in the joint venture of Ericsson and OZ, specifically focusing on target marketing work for iPulse. Since the field of instant messaging and the mobile world is quite new and recent, there is limited data to be had on the end user acceptance of various features and services. One of Fjalar’s responsibilities is to devise and implement procedures and processes by which features and services can be assessed and graded on a priority scale, taking into account the shifting technology and standards defining this field. In simpler terms, trying to discern the underlying "needs" of the end user, and not getting waylaid by the apparent "wants" as they appear today.

Prior to joining OZ.COM, Fjalar was an Internet consultant since 1996 in Iceland, with clients including foreign ministry of Iceland, Reykjavik city, The Icelandic Stock Market and Toyota Iceland, to name a few. During his time there, he conducted and managed several of high profile Internet projects in Iceland.

Fjalar also was a columnist on Business and the Internet for Iceland's Business weekly since 1997 and has made frequent appearances on national radio and TV on computers and the Internet. He has been a guest speaker at several universities and colleges in Iceland on business related Internet issues. Former appearances include "Business and the Internet" conference by Iceland's Export council, held in March '99 (appearing with Jakob Nielsen), and a speech to a closed meeting by the minister of industry and commerce for CEO's of Iceland's "Fortune 50" companies.

Fjalar holds a BA in languages from the University of Iceland and a degree in Practical Media from the same university.
