McPhail Hunt began his wireless career with GTE Wireless in early 1997 as a market planner and analyst, with a focus on product rollouts and pricing in the Southeast region. Later, while responsible for the companys sales development/training and product marketing, Hunt helped launch five new CDMA digital markets. In 1998, he joined GTEs headquarters as product manager of text messaging. In this role, he launched the companys text-messaging product and assisted in the development of a private-label wireless portal for text messaging and WAP services. In March 2000, he joined @mobile.com (recently acquired by Software.com) to assist in their business development activities to bridge the gap between the Internet and wireless phone users. In his new role with Software.com, Hunt is responsible for the product development and management of wireless instant messaging helping to bring desktop-based instant messaging services (AOL, ICQ, Tribal Voice) to WAP-enabled and two-way SMS phones. Prior to his career in wireless messaging, Hunt worked several years for Sara Lee Corporation as a marketing analyst in product management. Hunt holds a bachelors degree in international studies from Rhodes College, and a masters degree in business with an emphasis on electronic commerce from Vanderbilt University.
