Morning Workshop:
Introduction to Optical Networking & Switching
Doug Green
Vice President
Ocular Networks
Greg Nulty
Vice President
Ocular Networks
Description:
This course is an introduction to optical networking. It brings the audience up to
speed on the technologies and markets so they can better understand the market in general
and get more out of specific presentations on specific technologies and products.
Topics covered include:
- Optics 101 an overview of technologies and concepts that make DWDM and
optical networking work, including DWDM, OADMs, Optical Amplifiers, Cross Connects, and
components.
- History of Optical Networking How DWDM transformed the long distance
network, including a before-and-after analysis of the network: how routers found their way
into the equation, how the OIF and ODSI were formed, etc.
- Optical Networking in the metro and access networks
- Where optics are today and where optical technology is headed in the near future
