As part of
Teledesics senior leadership team, Bill Owens works closely with chairman and co-CEO
Craig McCaw. Owens spearheads Teledesics business development and government
marketing activities. He also serves as chief executive officer of affiliated Teledesic
Holdings Ltd. Previously, Owens was president, chief operating officer and vice chairman
of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), the nations largest
employee-owned high-technology company. Before that, he was vice chairman of the Joint
Chiefs of Staff. He also served as the deputy chief of Naval Operations for Resources,
Warfare Requirements and Assessments, commander of the U.S. Sixth Fleet, senior military
assistant to Secretaries of Defense Frank Carlucci and Dick Cheney, and director of the
Office of Program Appraisal for the Secretary of the Navy. He is a graduate of the U.S.
Naval Academy with a bachelors degree in mathematics. He has bachelors and
masters degrees in politics, philosophy and economics from Oxford University and a
masters in management from George Washington University. He joined Teledesic in
August 1998.
