Gary A. Johanson is the Chief Architect for the Nortel Satellite Network Solutions
organization. His main areas of interest include the definition of end-to-end
architectures for broadband multimedia satellite networks, mobile satellite services and
rural telephony via satellite. He has recently been involved with the overall network
definition for GEO-based systems, LEO- based systems, and hybrid GEO/LEO-based systems.
The satellite design for these systems include both bent-pipe and processing payloads.
Prior to joining Nortel, Johanson was Chief Engineer for Westinghouse Wireless
Solutions where he was responsible for the technical development of the Communications
Ground Segment for the North American MSAT system. In addition he had technical oversight
responsibilities for all programs and products of the Westinghouse Communications Division
within the Electronic Systems Group.
Johanson has diversified experience in systems engineering, technical management,
manufacturing, design (hardware/software/systems) and systems integration. During
Johansons career or more than 25 years in the industry, he has had direct
association with the following satellite systems:
- ATS-6 (Millimeter Wave Propagation Experiment)
- GOES
- NOAA/TIROS
- Ellipso
- AceS
- EAST
- WEST
- Thuraya
- Celestri
- Astrolink
- And several classified systems
Johanson holds BSEE and MSEE degrees in Communications and an MBA.  |
