Dr. Marcos A. Bergamo, BBN
Principal Scientist, Satellite Internetworking
BBN Technologies / GTE-Internetworking

Dr. Bergamo has been actively involved in the development of advanced digital satellite communications, from conventional circuit-oriented TDMA networks to advanced packet-oriented VSAT networks, SONET-capable gigabit satellite networks, and spread-spectrum-based satellite and terrestrial wireless systems. He is a Principal Scientist of BBN Technologies and the principal investigator for the DARPA/NASA Gigabit Satellite Network. From February 1985 through December 1987, as Vice-President of Research and Development of Satellite Technology Management Inc. (STM), he conceived and developed the U.S. first high-capacity packet oriented Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) network. Previous development responsibilities were in the areas of high-data-rate TDMA satellite systems, packet data networking and digital communications.. In 1997, Dr. Bergamo was inducted to the U.S. Space Technology Hall of Fame for his innovative contributions in the area of high-speed satellite networking.
