The convergence of voice/video and data services over an intranet or internet
requires the use of differentiated services techniques. IP is the transport protocol for
all of these services and by using the IP precedence bits, we can adjust the quality of
service needed for delivery of these services over a network.
This presentation will include a demonstration of Voice over IP on a GEOS
satellite link that will also be using the same T1 for data traffic. Also discussed will
be the current research into using ATM and Packet Over Sonet (POS) with IP precedence/
weighted red (WRED) to compare the QoS and effeciency of these types of physical
transports at OC-3 (155 Megabits per second) rates. |
