Migrating Metropolitan Networks

Description:
New architectures are required to meet the unprecedented growth in capacity demand
for metropolitan networks. They must make best use of optical technologies and support a
data-centric world while being able to handle legacy traffic. In addition they must
provide the ease of configuration, planning and expansion forecast tolerance that carriers
expect, while making efficient use of the network capacity. The presentation will outline
such a metropolitan architecture. It discusses in particular issues in optical bandwidth
planning, mesh topologies and capacity efficient protection mechanisms that meet
traditional SONET performance.
