Optical Access Networking:
The Last Mile of the All-Optical Network

Steve Hersey
Director of Technical Marketing
Quantum Bridge Communications

Description:
The continued deployment of fiber optic technologies in the network backbone has both service providers and business customers excited about the prospect of utilizing the bandwidth-intensive applications that will change the way we do business. Without an elimination of the bandwidth bottlenecks that exist in the first mile -- the most congested piece of the network --it will be impossible for these services to ever be delivered to the business customer.

Optical Access Networking is a breakthrough technology which empowers service providers with the scaleable, high-speed access network required for the delivery of this new breed of business services. By providing an optical first mile solution capable of providing customers with flexible and varying amounts of bandwidth over both ATM and IP, service providers can finally deploy services to customers at price points that make sense for their customers as well as themselves.
